Studied: BA (Hons) Sports ManagementRole: Community Sports Development Manager at Freedom Leisure
From having career ambitions in sport to running with them...
Freedom Leisure manages leisure sites and entertainment venues across Sussex, Surrey and Kent for partners including local authorities, colleges and charities. A not-for-profit trust, their income is invested back into their centres to provide even better leisure services for their communities.
"I knew I wanted to work in sport but I wasn't 100% sure in what area. So, once I discovered that sports management covered all aspects, Bucks was the obvious choice. It also helped that the university was so close to London.
"For me, the best thing about studying for the Sports Management course was the psychology module which I really enjoyed. I liked that there were plenty of opportunities available to me through the university - which were all relevant to the course.
"Since graduating, I've been lucky enough to find a job in my chosen career path - sports development. And much of what I do in my job today is directly from what I learnt on the course, particularly the Sports Management Finance module.
"In that respect, the course has definitely helped me to enhance my career prospects. One day I'd like to work within a different field of sports development to gain even more experience, such as for a National Governing Body of sport.
"I'd highly recommend Bucks New University to study your degree. They have a wide range of courses on offer and the lecturers are so helpful. I had an amazing three years at Bucks and wish I could do it again!"
