Name: Emma Albins Studied: LLMRole: Associate Solicitor at Birketts
From listening to lectures to laying down the law...
"I studied Law at Bucks and I currently work at Birketts, a top 100 Law Firm that’s been around for 150 years and has four offices in the East Anglia region. My role here is as an Associate Solicitor in the Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution team in the Ipswich Office.
"On a day-today basis I provide legal advice to local and national business clients and work with them to try to resolve their commercial disputes either at court or via alternative dispute resolution. I’m also involved with business development activities, such as writing articles for The Firm and attending various events.
"My degree from Bucks gave me a passion for law and the desire to be a Solicitor, as well as the academic qualifications to progress to the Post-graduate Legal Practice course and secure a training contract. It equipped me with numerous skills, like the ability to perform legal research, which is invaluable to me. My degree vastly expanded my legal knowledge too – something I’m continuing to build on.
"The best thing about studying at Bucks was the care my lecturers took about the subjects they taught and about helping us to achieve our potential. Lot’s of other things added value too, like being a student ambassador. This meant I got involved with open day tours, careers fairs and talks in schools, helping me to gain confidence and communication skills. The careers service was supportive too as they set up a mock interview for me with a local firm, which really helped when it came to the real thing.
"My advice to anyone thinking about studying at Bucks would be - it’s a wonderful place, so go for it and make the most of your time there! For me, it was truly memorable, I had a lot of fun and made lifelong friends.”
