The Blackboard Learning System is the University’s virtual learning environment and course management system. Its main purpose is the storage, management and dissemination of course materials. It offers tutor a variety of ways to delivery and communicate online materials for courses traditionally delivered face-to-face. Blackboard tools include: BB Collaborate, BB Mobile and BB Enterprise Instant Message.

Training for Blackboard is available via:


BB Collaborate – communicate, educate, collaborate.

  • Web Conferencing
  • Collaborate on whiteboards share desktops
  • Breakout rooms for group work
  • Watch presentation live or recorded
  • Use emoticons, hand raising, polls, breakout rooms
  • Capture class experiences as recordings and re-use as learning objects

Mobile Collaboration – anywhere, anytime, any LMS.

  • Join live sessions from iPhone, iPad, or Android device (including Kindle Fire HD)
  • Interact via text chat and two-way audio
  • View whiteboard content and shared applications
  • Use emoticons, hand raising, polls, breakout rooms
  • Connect from any learning management system
  • Stream or download recordings to any mobile device

Enterprise Instant Messenger - help desks, group meetings, 1-2-1 collaboration.

  • Interact via text chat and two-way audio and video
  • Collaborate on whiteboards and share desktops
  • Communicate with classmates or tutors, 1-2-1 or in groups
  • Access Help Desk services for the Reception, Careers, Library and Student Centre

Lynda.com is an online subscription library that teaches the latest software tools and skills through high-quality instructional videos taught by recognised industry experts. Students can access more than 1400 training videos on a broad range of subjects.

Turnitin is an Internet-based plagiarism-prevention service created by iParadigms, LLC.  It allows institutions to collect student work electronically as well as allowing tutors to use several tools to annotation and audio to grade student submissions.  This service is used by millions of educational institutions across the world.
