Learning Development Unit
The Learning Development Unit (LDU) is the learning and academic
development advice centre for all students at the university. We
work with students who are keen to develop their academic abilities
and improve their grades, whatever their course, year, or ability
level.
If you are a student at the university, the LDU can help you get
the most from your learning in a variety of ways. We can advise you
on effective note-making strategies, support you in developing your
research skills and evidence-based academic writing, improve your
critical thinking and help you to get the most from the feedback on
your assignments.
We also offer support in numeracy, financial and statistical
skills, accessing and using online and other technological
resources effectively in your learning and can advise you on
effective time and task management strategies. The LDU also has
expertise in supporting students whose first language is not
English.
As well as working closely with current students, the LDU
provides a range of support and development opportunities to both
home and overseas students who are about to start their studies at
the university. We offer pre-sessional courses and support designed
to prepare students for the demands of academic study at
undergraduate and postgraduate level.
The LDU also works with lecturers and other staff, providing
resources and sharing good practice around curriculum planning,
teaching and assessment in order to provide students with
successful learning experiences. We can offer tailor-made input to
provide support for the particular needs of students in individual
courses and modules.
