Multimedia pioneer receives honorary degree
Jon
Ingall, pioneer of integrated advertising and founder of
Archibald Ingall Stretton, has received an honorary degree
from Buckinghamshire New University in recognition of his
outstanding contribution to the field of communication and of his
longstanding and continued support for the University.
Jon is amongst a distinguished gathering of individuals being
honoured at Bucks New University's graduation ceremonies taking
place at the Wycombe Swan theatre from 7-11 September.
Jon began his direct marketing career with a fledgling agency
called Evans Hunt Scott. He quickly rose to become
Managing Director in 1993, and helped to transform Evans Hunt
Scott into one of the UK’s most successful direct marketing
agencies. He was responsible for developing and managing the highly
successful loyalty programme, Tesco Clubcard, and in 1998,
Evans Hunt Scott won Campaign Direct’s
‘Agency of the Year’ award. Following this, Jon set up his
own agency, Archibald Ingall Stretton, and the agency’s
dynamic approach has made them acknowledged pioneers of multimedia
advertising, with clients including O2, EDF Energy, Skoda and
Abbey.
Jon has received awards from Campaign Direct, Creative
Circle, Precision Marketing, the Direct Marketing Association, The
Marketing Society, London International, One Show and
John Caples. Among the many advertising and direct
marketing bodies Jon is involved with, he currently sits on the
Institute of Direct Marketing’s Council of Management and
is a regular speaker at industry events.
Jon said: “I am delighted to receive this award from
Buckinghamshire New University, and to have had such a longstanding
and mutually beneficial relationship with the University. At a time
when our industry is facing unprecedented change, it is vital that
we continue to invest in developing young talent. Our experience
over the last ten years has shown that nowhere does this better
than Bucks.”
Despite a hectic work schedule, Jon has been a major supporter
of the advertising programmes at Bucks New University, and
Archibald Ingall Stretton has employed and nurtured more
than 15 graduates. He has set projects, given lectures and provided
staff as mentors for the University’s students, and his continuous
support for the development of initiatives at Bucks has often been
given at his agency’s expense. This year Jon became a member of the
University’s Business Advisory Board.
Around 1,500 Buckinghamshire New University students are
receiving their degree certificates in the presence of family and
friends, this week.
Prof Derek Godfrey, Deputy Vice Chancellor at Bucks New University,
commented: “We choose our honorary awardees in recognition of their
outstanding achievements in their particular fields. We are
delighted that Jon Ingall has accepted our invitation to be
associated with us in this way. I am sure that he will be an
inspiration to the graduating students, and to those that will come
after them.”
