We are here to help ensure that you get the most from your experience at Bucks in an inclusive learning environment.
Our team consists of a Disability Service Manager, General Student Advisers, Mental Health Student Adviser, Information Officer, Dyslexia Tutors and Dyslexia Assessors who give advice information and guidance to applicants and current students.
The disability service is able to offer a wide range of
reasonable adjustments for those with
dyslexia, medical conditions,
mental health difficulties and other disabilities. Our team also assists with applications for
Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSAs) and can provide dyslexia screening.
We give placement paperwork to students registered with us as a basis for disclosure and discussion with the appropriate course team members. The most appropriate placements can then be planned and information shared with the placement team. We can also provide
careers advice to disabled students.
Our team also provides reasonable adjustments for those with temporary disabilities including injuries like broken arms and legs which have an effect on your ability to study.
We are happy to discuss individual needs at
any stage of your application or during your studies and if you have any difficulty in accessing the information you require then please consult these
sources of further information or
contact us.
Registration and disclosure
If you have a disability, it is essential that you register with us so that you get the reasonable adjustments to which you are entitled. You can contact us using the details below to register with us. At your registration meeting we will discuss your disability and the reasonable adjustments required. Please bring disability evidence to our meeting in the form of a GP letter or equivalent. Please remember that once you have registered with us we continue to offer advice and guidance throughout your studies.
At Bucks we use a disclosure agreement to ensure that information is shared with the right people to provide you with the reasonable adjustments. At your first meeting with us you will be asked to give your consent to enable us to share relevant information with others. We only contact others on a need to know basis and we will normally be acting on your behalf, for example liaising with your school or with external funding bodies. Students who undertake placements on their course will have disclosure paperwork as a basis for the discussion with the placement team.
We will always uphold your wishes in terms of disclosure, however if at any time we consider you to be at risk we reserve the right to contact the emergency/medical services.
If you have any concerns regarding the level of disclosure please contact your student adviser.
