Bucks New University is committed to supporting the foundations of sporting success in a dynamic and ever changing sporting landscape.
Our vision
Our vision for sport and physical activity is to be a University renowned for the support of sport and physical activity through academic provision, participation and achievement, and for its ability to engage with the local community and a diverse range of partners.
To achieve this vision, Bucks New University has created a unified Sports Strategy to drive the development and implementation of the University vision forward. The Sports Strategy is based on the delivery of three outcomes, which together form the integral components of the University’s vision:
1. People: To increase the number of participants (students and employees) across the University who are involved in sport and physical activity;
2. Performance: To support individuals and sports teams to fulfil their academic and sporting potential;
3. Partnership: To maximise relationships with the University community and external partners through sport, and become the hub of local sporting activity.
To ensure the Sports Strategy has an effective and holistic approach to sport and physical activity, a group of key internal and external stakeholders has been established. This group is chaired by the Visiting Professor of Sport, Peter Thomas MBE, and is managed by the Sports Strategy Manager, Carina Page. The group has representation from the University’s Senior Management Team, the Strategic Marketing & Communications Directorate, Bucks Students’ Union, the Faculty of Design, Media & Management, which is responsible for the academic sports programmes, and a Business Services Manager, as well as a number of key external partners.
Our mission
The mission is to ensure that: Bucks New University will strive to be recognised by students, the community, regional and national sporting bodies, as a University with a sporting focus, providing high quality sporting experiences at all levels, from participation through to excellence.
The Sports Strategy seeks to achieve this mission and underpin its three key outcomes with a holistic approach from its internal and external partners. In particular, the three key outcomes will be underpinned by five strategic aims:
1. To enhance the sports portfolio and sporting excellence at the University;
2. To optimise and align the delivery and structure of sport at both the University and with our key external partners;
3. To raise the profile and the reputation of the University and enhance its contribution to the local, regional and national sporting community;
4. To improve the health and wellbeing within the University and local community by promoting participation in sport and physical activity;
5. To continue to enhance and maximise the use and management of the University’s sports and fitness facilities.
It is through the five strategic aims that the implementation of the Sports Strategy will emerge.
The Sports Strategy and Development Manager will continue to liaise with and align key partners within the University and from external organisations to ensure a holistic approach is adopted.
The Sports Strategy Group will be responsible for the overall implementation of the strategy and for measuring the impact and progress of the agreed outcomes. This group will meet on a regular basis to ensure that open communication and a forward-facing approach is adopted and maintained.
