Course Description
 
The Foundation Course is an introduction to the broad spectrum of possibilities of study and career choice pathways within art and design. The course is designed to allow students to make well informed choices through exposure to a fast moving and stimulating programme of study. Students are introduced to art and design practice with a series of studio based projects, lectures and gallery visits, all of which encourages a student to discover their creative potential.

The Course Structure
 
Available as a 1 Year Full Time , the course structure is divided into three stages. The first stage covers core studies and introduces the main specialist areas that students can choose to study at stage 2 and 3. Later stages are concerned with focusing and developing skills, exploration and development of further critical awareness. Fine Art, Fashion and Textiles, Visual Communication, Photography and 3D Design, are the broad specialist
areas covering the diversity of study available at degree level. Stage 3 studies see students undertaking a major project that results in the Summer Exhibition, open to the public during May/June.
 
Studio projects and practical workshop experience is balanced with a contextual studies programme that ensures students gain an understanding of historical theory and practice. It also increases knowledge of the context in which artists and designers work. Lectures, seminars and visits by practising artists and designers ensure a lively programme.
 
Applications are made to Universities and Colleges with advice and guidance from knowledgeable and experienced staff. The course continues to enjoy a very high rate of successful applications to Higher Education courses (98% - 100%).
 

Entry Requirements:

Minimum age 18 years
1 A level + 3 GCSE grades A-C
or
GNVQ Advanced + AS level as above
