The Foundation Course is an introduction to the broad spectrum
of possibilities of study and career choice pathways within art and
design. The course is designed to allow students to make well
informed choices through exposure to a fast moving and stimulating
programme of study. Students are introduced to art and design
practice with a series of studio based projects, lectures and
gallery visits, all of which encourages a student to discover their
creative potential.
The Course Structure
Available as a 1 Year Full Time , the course structure is
divided into three stages. The first stage covers core studies and
introduces the main specialist areas that students can choose to
study at stage 2 and 3. Later stages are concerned with focusing
and developing skills, exploration and development of further
critical awareness. Fine Art, Fashion and Textiles, Visual
Communication, Photography and 3D Design, are the broad
specialist
areas covering the diversity of study available at degree
level. Stage 3 studies see students undertaking a major project
that results in the Summer Exhibition, open to the public during
May/June.
Studio projects and practical workshop experience is balanced
with a contextual studies programme that ensures students gain an
understanding of historical theory and practice. It also increases
knowledge of the context in which artists and designers work.
Lectures, seminars and visits by practising artists and designers
ensure a lively programme.
Applications are made to Universities and Colleges with advice
and guidance from knowledgeable and experienced staff. The course
continues to enjoy a very high rate of successful applications to
Higher Education courses (98% - 100%).
