Money Advice Centre
If you’re a UK national or EU citizen, you can apply
for a student loan to cover your fees and maintenance. Lower
income families can also apply for a maintenance grant that doesn’t
have to be repaid. You can find up-to-date information on the
Department for Education’s website. Please note that there
are different funding arrangements for nursing students and more
information is available at the NHS Student Grants
Website.
It’s important to apply for funding as soon as
you receive your offer of a place at Bucks, so that you can make
sure that funding is in place at the start of your course.
Our Money Advice Centre can help you with any financial queries,
including budgeting and the management of debt. So if you
find yourself in hardship at any point, it’s always worth getting
in touch. There are two funds that might be of use: the Access to
Learning Fund (ALF) is government-run and aimed at UK nationals,
while the Bucks New University Fund is for students who don’t
qualify for ALF. There are strict rules governing
applications and your eligibility will be judged on your particular
circumstances.
The Money Advice Centre can also help with
short-term loans at the beginning of the academic year if there is
a delay in your funding coming through. These loans do need to be
repaid within ten days of your student loan or bursary coming
through. For more information please visit the Money Advice Centre
section of our website.
