What will this course cover?
You’ll begin this course looking into the structure and development of the air transport industry. During this first year you’ll also focus on finance and economics, travel and tourism marketing, and the importance of managing customer service.

You’ll develop a deep understanding of the industry and throughout the course you’ll have the chance to go on field trips. These visits enable you to see the professional working environment first hand, and can help you in choosing a particular career path in this diverse sector.

We’ll give you the opportunity to go on a seasonal work placement, which will provide you with further insight into the international travel and tourism sector. During this time you’ll be able to fine-tune the skills learned in the classroom in a practical, real-time setting.

By the time you finish this degree you’ll have specific knowledge of the day-to-day operation and management of the various tourism sectors. You’ll have studied key modules in tourism, airline, airport and business management and have looked into globalisation and collaboration within the tourism and air transport industry. There is also an opportunity to study abroad at a partner institution and you’ll benefit from International Travel and Tourism membership.

Our tourism and aviation degree programmes have been developed with industry experts and attract a number of guest lecturers.

The department continuously pursues new partnerships in order to help you find suitable placements. We’ll give you the opportunity to attend a number of workshops, which include sections on the procedures for work placement feedback and guidance on taking related modules during your seasonal employment. Being so close to London, you’ll be able to pursue placements in five star hotels, major theme parks and a number of organisations at Heathrow Airport.

What are the entry requirements?

A typical offer will include GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above and a UCAS Tariff score of 80-96. A minimum of two full A-levels (or equivalent) is required. Every application is considered on an individual basis.

How much does it cost?

Fees for September 2017 to August 2018 entry

Full-time Home and EU: £9,250 per year
Full-time International: £10,500 per year

Most courses will involve some additional costs that are not covered by your fees.

What are my career prospects?

When you graduate from this course, you’ll have acquired the skills and in depth knowledge required for a successful career in this dynamic industry. You may choose to work with airline and tour operators, destination management companies, or agencies that specialise in public sector tourism planning and development. You’ll also be qualified for work in tourism marketing agencies, and for developers of niche tourism products such as eco-tourism.

Alternatively, you may chose to develop your own small tourism venture, or further your studies at postgraduate level.
