Is this course for me?

If you want to qualify as a commercial pilot, this dynamic course covers the many areas of airline and airport management and prepares you for a successful career as a commercial pilot. We are looking for applicants who can demonstrate an enthusiasm for flying and a strong interest in the aviation industry.

What will this course cover?
This exciting programme of study will allow you to obtain a recognised UK Honours degree and qualify for a ‘frozen’ Airline Transport Pilot Licence. This is the highest commercial pilot category there is. Once you have met the required number of professional experiences, the frozen prefix will be dropped.

Throughout this programme you’ll study key modules in air law, meteorology and instruments alongside broader subjects such as global aviation and airport operations. You’ll take basic theoretical pilot training, while a range of practical and advanced theoretical training modules will be available through our approved provider.

As well as commercial pilot training, this course is structured to equip you with a range of skills for progression into airline management roles. You’ll examine strategic and sustainability management, as well as the structure and development of the industry.

By the time you finish this course you’ll have demonstrated self-reliance and adaptability as well as qualities in leadership and communication. You’ll become a professional, well-trained pilot, ready to tackle the challenges that face the profession today.

Unique to the UK Higher Education sector, our programme will allow you to obtain a university degree and a frozen ATPL in just three years of full-time study - at a lower cost than doing them separately. We are one of only a few UK universities to have an FMPT 2 Flight Simulator, which you’ll use throughout your time with us for a number of training modules.

You’ll benefit from the experience of our specialist staff and balance academic study with professional qualifications. You’ll become a member of the Royal Aeronautical Society and obtain your Commercial Pilot’s Licence with Instrumental Rating and ultimately your Multi-Crew Co-operation Certificate, known as Frozen ATPL.

People 1st Gold Award In Aviation
We are the only Higher Education institution to have been awarded the People 1st Gold accreditation for our aviation degrees. Being so close to Heathrow, the course attracts a variety of guest lecturers. Our links with the airport also provide great opportunity for seasonal employment and work placements.
