Is this course for me?

Whether you’re interested in developing artists, social media or brand marketing, this course will give you a broad overview of the music and entertainment business. You’ll learn about music cultures and develop key entrepreneurial skills relevant to this rapidly evolving sector.

What will this course cover?
The music and entertainment industry has been subject to dramatic change during the past decade. During this course you’ll develop solid business, marketing and management skills, allowing you to pursue a career in this rapidly evolving industry.

You’ll learn about the unique nature of dealing with recording artists and entertainment 'product' and spend time focusing on a number of DIY approaches to the music business.

Key modules will be taken in brand development, managing talent and music publishing. You’ll also spend time focusing on intellectual property, digital marketing and public relations. This broad approach to the business makes sure you develop a well-rounded understanding of the opportunities available in this successful and rewarding industry.

Harnessing entrepreneurship
This course aims to harness and develop entrepreneurship, a vital attribute in the music business. You’ll learn creative strategies, how to follow market trends and seek opportunities within them. These skills will enable you to enter the industry as a self-employed freelancer, or launch your own music venture.

Bucks pioneered music business and management degrees over 20 years ago. Our students have the opportunity to go on an Erasmus exchange for a semester during their second year. Our partner institutions are based in the USA and in Holland and Sweden and have excellent connections to the music industries in their respective countries.

Our industry advisory group, BIGMusic, regularly reviews our music business and management courses. This ensures you graduate with up to date skills and knowledge relevant for today’s industry demands.

MC9 Music
Bucks runs its own in-house music business company, MC9 Music Ltd. You’ll have the opportunity to work as part of this independent company, which allows students to put on events. This will give you first-hand experience working in a professional, real-time environment, working with a variety of different artists.

You’ll be able to take advantage of Bucks’ strong industry links to find excellent work experience opportunities. Previous students have worked with companies such as Sony, Sennheiser and Universal Music.

What are the entry requirements?

A typical offer will include GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above and a UCAS Tariff score of 80-96. A minimum of two full A-levels (or equivalent) is required. Every application is considered on an individual basis.

How much does it cost?

Fees for September 2017 to August 2018 entry

Full-time Home and EU: £9,250 per year
Full-time International: £10,500 per year

Most courses will involve some additional costs that are not covered by your fees.

What are my career prospects?

When you finish this degree you’ll be qualified to follow a number of career paths in the music business. Record label management, artist management, marketing and promotions will all be an option, as will music publishing and royalty collection and organisation. You’ll also be well suited for roles in sponsorship businesses and within music industry bodies.

Alternatively, you may choose to further your studies at postgraduate level.
