If you’re inspired by the silver screen, television and live broadcast or smaller screens like YouTube, our film and television course will help you get involved in the industry. You’ll record, produce and direct in our well-equipped studio and have the opportunity to work for big names like the BBC and Chyron-Hego.

From the lecture hall to the cutting-room floorThrough a mix of lectures, seminars and practical workshops, we help you learn the skills you need in a modern media business. You’ll cover camera, lighting, sound, editing and all elements of planning and pre-production, bringing them together to produce a range of fiction and non-fiction films.
We treat you like professional filmmakers. Films are analysed and deconstructed so you can apply those techniques to your work. Our students don't just stop at learning about film and television, they cover webcasting as well.
Expert teaching from professionals in their fieldsThe course team have a range of experience in the film and television industry. We teach in professional standard recording and filmmaking facilities. As well as lectures, we have professional masterclasses, guest speakers, and work experience opportunities designed to prepare you for a career in film and television.
Students also benefit from filming weeks, location shooting and outside broadcasts. All of these have different demands and require flexible and organised thinking.
Our course has been awarded the Creative Skillset tick. This is the industry’s recognised approval that we give our students the skills needed for a job in the media.
We create the industry on campus, giving our students every opportunity to collaborate across courses, just like the real world. Work with our audio specialists on the Audio and Music Production course and our selection of new stars in the Performing Arts course.
Film and Television is mostly taught in our newest building, the Gateway building. It’s equipped with modern suites and brand-new facilities.
We use professional Panasonic and Canon cameras. And in our private and communal editing suites, you’ll get the chance to become skilled with all our post-production software including Final Cut Pro X, Avid Media Composer and the Adobe Creative Cloud.
Work for the BBCEvery month, Bucks students work with BBC Introducing, a project for unsigned artists to promote themselves online. Working with Audio and Music Production students, you’ll record, edit and direct all footage.
Recently, our students have been working with Watford FC filming their matches in the Championship. They recorded live footage from the home games and some of our 2015 graduates were taken on by CTV as soon as their studies were completed, and are now working on productions such as Sky’s coverage of Ashes cricket and the BBC’s Match of the Day.
Other students and graduates have worked on Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), Pan (2015), Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016), and lots more.

We provide you with the opportunity to work in placements where you’ll gain real experience. Many of our students end up being fully employed by the company they worked for during their placement.
Some of these companies include: BBC, Chyron-Hego, BT Sport, CTV, Celador Productions, Nickelodeon, Pinewood Studios, Sky Sports, SKY TV and Talkback Thames.
You’ll get the chance to work on big projects In 2012, we had more than 25 undergraduates employed across many of the London Olympics sites, from Dorney Lake to the Olympic stadia. These students have now graduated and are working in sports and live events broadcast, a direct result of our commitment to working closely with our industry partners for the benefit of our graduating students.
In 2015 Bucks graduate Rob Brandon directed the chart-topping video ‘Budapest’ for artist George Ezra.
