These two-year courses give those working in the sector the opportunity to gain a Foundation Degree. Designed in conjunction with leading companies and delivered by sector specialists, in essence these are distance learning courses delivered on-line and complemented by attendance at six two-day workshops each year at the University’s campus in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.

The course design allows you to choose the time and place you want to study. On completion of the Foundation Degree you will have the opportunity to convert this into a full honours degree or master’s.

Master’s Degrees (work-based):

• MSc Business Continuation, Security and Disaster Management
• MA in Leadership and Management
• MA in Business Administration (MBA)
• MA Human Resources Management (CIPD).

Master’s degrees take 18 months to complete and are studied in an exciting flexible way related to the work environment of each student.

MSc Business Continuation, Security and Disaster Management

This master’s degree programme sets a new standard in offering higher education opportunities for students working in the Security Sector. It is work-based, which means students study while they work, supported by security expert tutors. In recognition of the diversity of businesses that need to plan for

business continuity, the programme is sufficiently flexible to meet individual roles and responsibilities.

This 18-month programme comprises three modules, which are designed to provide significant opportunities for learning and applying current theories, concepts and practices of business continuity.

Short courses

Certificate in Protective Security – The University is an awarding body endorsed by the SIA and has eight companies who can offer the licensing qualification through the University. Completing the course leading to the license qualification will also provide 15 credits towards the Protective Security foundation degree.

Stewards Training Day – A one day course at venues around the country targeted at those employing stewards and volunteers at festivals. This concentrates on legal obligations, the site map, communications and crowd safety.

Pit Safety Training Course – This one day course is for staff working as part of a Pit Safety Team and is designed to be delivered by companies. It provides information about all aspects of working in a pit and has both practical and theoretical assessments. Success on this course can attract 20 HE credits.

Foundation Degree in Security Systems:

Two year work-based degree

This exciting and innovative course provides students with the opportunity to gain a foundation degree, whilst working in the Security Systems sector. It combines the technical aspects of security systems with the knowledge and skills required to perform competently in managerial roles. Students for this qualification would have either a technicalbackground or a supervisory background in security systems.

Graduates from the programme would be ideally qualified to progress their career opportunities as technical managers in this expanding sector of the security industry.

The programme combines mandatory modules that are delivered through the University, with options that are delivered through external partners. Students can select particular external modules to meet their individual employment needs. External modules can be gained before, during or after the core modules, making this course extremely flexible.

Students also complete a Security Systems project, which combines the knowledge and skills learnt on the programme.

The modules are delivered through a combination of the web-based virtual learning environment and workshops. To reflect the academic and vocational nature of this programme, the tutors are from both industry and the University. Students can therefore be confident that the programme reflects current technologies and practices, firmly underpinned by academic principles and theories.
