Is this course for me?

If you enjoy strategy, planning and anticipating 'worst case scenarios', this course is for you.

Organisational resilience is a relatively new field of work and research, made more meaningful, by the lessons learnt after the 2010 earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand.

It's an exciting and challenging area of expertise, increasingly sought after by all sectors of society.

Many of the students on this course already work in roles such as risk management, continuity management, or are in the armed forces. This unique course expands your knowledge of business readiness against a whole host of potential threats.

What will this course cover?

Organisational resilience experts prepare businesses to survive and thrive whatever the threat, from a workforce strike to an IT failure, from a flood to a war. Until now, vital expertise has been siloed into disciplines such as crisis management, continuity management and risk management.

This master's will broaden your understanding of how resilience applies across all disciplines and allows adaptability and flexibility of organisations.

You will learn how to manage the interests of your organisation, protect their products and services, processes and activities and to manage their futures effectively. You will increase your critical and multi-dimensional thinking. The course keeps pace with world developments and teaches you how to spot and anticipate emerging trends.
You'll challenge practices and approaches that are commonly used in the security industry and professional associations, to find the best way forward for all disciplines.

As the only university to offer this groundbreaking course, Bucks has strong expertise in this area. Our Security and Resilience Department has a wealth of experience across many relevant disciplines, including experts in cyber security, close security, risk management and business. Our tutors have decades of experience in helping management
focus and prepare for potential threats.

With their blend of industry knowledge and academic expertise, our tutors give you the practical, managerial and intellectual skills that make your organisation highly resilient. Our
uniquely holistic approach enables all disciplines to work better together for greater resilience.

Flexible learning
We've designed this course to make our expertise accessible even to those who are unable to attend on-site. Some of our students work in Iraq, Afghanistan and North Africa, with limited access to the internet. We adapt the course to suit each individual, with frequent telephone, video resources or Skype calls to those who can't easily attend in-house sessions.

We provide a high level of support both face-to-face and electronically using our virtual learning environment. Our online learning package helps you make the most of your time, and means you can focus on the issues relevant to your company. It also minimises your time away from your workplace.
Peer group discussion
Those who can make it to our workshops, benefit from a series of two-day workshops, two within each module at Missenden Abbey in Great Missenden. You will meet your fellow students for valuable peer group sharing and discussion. Remote access to these workshops is available for postgraduates working overseas.

Throughout the programme, you will apply current theories, concepts and practices to organisational resilience. We focus on learning that is anchored in reality rather than the sterility of pure theory. We explore real problems and identify innovative solutions that can be applied effectively in a competitive and dynamic work environment.
