Money Advice Centre
If you’re
studying on our Art & Design Foundation course – and you meet
the income and residency requirements – you’ll be eligible for
either an Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA) or an Adult
Learning Grant (ALG). These take the form of a weekly payment
of either £10, £20 or £30 for people who have at least 12 hours of
guided learning each week.
The EMA Assessment & Payment Body/ALG Team assess
eligibility based on the information provided in their application
form and supporting financial evidence.
If you’re receiving an EMA,
remain on the course and make good progress, you can also receive
bonuses in line with your individual learning targets. These
bonuses are paid periodically throughout the year.
You will be paid when you
have attended all sessions essential for EMA/ALG purposes. Payments
will be made directly into your bank account and your entitlement
won’t be affected by any other income you earn.
Further information on EMA
can be found at ema.dfes.gov.uk or by telephoning
the helpline on 0808 10 16219.
Further information on ALG
can be found by emailing alg@manchester.gov.uk or by
telephone on 0845 456 0027 or visit www.direct.gov.uk.
Whether or not you’re
receiving an EMA or ALG, you can also apply to the Learner Support
Fund for additional discretionary assistance. This fund is for
students who need extra help with course related costs, travel
costs or those who face unexpected hardship.
Application forms can be
collected from the Money Advice Centre at the High Wycombe
campus.
