Employees and Dyslexia

BCUC Consultancy ServicesWithin the remit of the Disability Equality Scheme the Disability Service is happy to advise and guide any employee who suspects they have Dyslexia. As a first step you might like to complete the Adult Dyslexia Checklist.

If you have concerns that you may have Dyslexia please in the first instance contact the Disability Service Manger on 01494 605247 or email: headofdisabilityservice@bucks.ac.uk who will then arrange a Confidential discussion - to discuss the procedures involved with Screening and formal Assessment.

If you decide to proceed with a Screening, which involves 1 hour of testing with a Student Adviser you should be aware that there is a cost of £50. This may be met by your department subject to your line managers agreement or you may wish to fund this privately. If your department is to fund the costs we need a confirmatory email from your line manager prior to booking. They will be invoiced after the screening.

Depending on the screening results, staff may be advised to contact Dyslexia Action on 01784 222300 for a formal external Assessment.

The line manager may need to be involved to fund the assessment with a view to accessing the Jobcentre Plus scheme called Access to Work.

Please also have a look at our pages on Disclosure and feel free to contact either the Disability Service Manager on 01494 605247, email: headofdisabilityservice@bucks.ac.uk or the Equality and Diversity Manager email: equalities@bucks.ac.uk  if you have any concerns.
