Graduation Robes

Student gown hire

All students being admitted to their degrees in person (graduands) are required to wear academic dress (cap, hood and gown). Regulatory document Academic Dress outlines the robes for each award.

If you hope to be involved in one of the Graduation Ceremonies you should book your gown from  Ede and Ravenscroft using the 'Booking Form' or from their web site which is to be found here.
Please note
Those awarded a Graduate Diploma should choose the robes as for Foundation degrees.

  • For BA(Hons) and BSc(hons) choose  Bachelors/1st Degrees
  • For Foundation degress choose Foundations degrees
  • For HND, HNC, choose BTEC/Edexcel validations

Before ordering make sure you know your head circumference, chest and height measurements. (If you do not know your hat size, measure you head circumference one inch above the eyebrow.)

You can order online at Ede and Ravenscroft web site and will receive a confirmation and order number after one simple transaction. Be sure to print out a record of the transaction and to put it somewhere safe. You will need it on the day of your ceremony when you collect you outfit.

Faculty graduation coordinators order gowns for faculty employees who will be in attendance.

Useful information
For comfort and practicality when wearing academic dress we recommend you wear a top or shirt that buttons up to the neck as it makes it easier to attach the hood to your gown.

It is also useful to bring safety pins and hair grips to help keep your hood and hat in place.

If you are unable to attend your ceremony after placing an order for gown hire, you should write to Ede and Ravenscroft at least seven days before the date of the ceremony to receive a full refund.
