Recruitment

Could you help shape the direction of a new generation university?

Buckinghamshire New University is a modern university, young in outlook, but well established in the fields we specialise in with a proud 125 years history of transforming the lives of our students.

We are the only publicly funded higher education institution in Buckinghamshire and are therefore well connected with the local community. As a University, we have excellent links with industry and professional associations. We are proud of our partnerships which help to enhance the way our students gain knowledge and apply their learning from Bucks and beyond.

Earlier this year, the University appointed a new Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Nick Braisby, to lead us through the next stages of our development, building on our current Transformation Programme to ensure we remain relevant and sustainable.

We are now looking to enhance our governance through the appointment of new members to join our Council from August 2019. Successful candidates will assist the Vice-Chancellor and Executive team in developing and delivering the new University strategy.

We are seeking enthusiastic and energetic individuals who have an interest in higher education and are pursuing an opportunity to utilise their experience, skills and insight to support the University. We are particularly interested to hear from individuals with skills and expertise related to:

  • Health Care and the public services
  • Creative Industries
  • Aviation
  • Military / Security
  • Sports / Fitness
  • Higher / Further Education Sector
  • Regulated industries
  • Joint ventures and mergers
  • Marketing / Brand

Additionally, we would particularly welcome individuals with regional connections to Buckinghamshire.

Ideally, applicants should have Board level experience or hold prominent or senior positions within their workplace. Successful candidates will have excellent interpersonal skills and must be committed to working as part of a team with other Council members and the Executive team.

This is a part-time non-remunerated position requiring a commitment of up to 8 days a year although more time may be required depending on allocated sub-committees and other University events such as graduation ceremonies. Expenses are paid for travel and subsistence in relation to duties undertaken as a member of Council. The initial term of appointment is four years extendable for a second term up to a maximum of eight years.

We are welcoming expressions of interest from all sections of our Community. To keep our board diverse, we would particularly welcome applications from BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) backgrounds, women and people with disabilities.

For further information please see Candidate Pack. For an informal discussion, please contact Ellie Smith at the below email address. Applications can be made by completing the Application Form and Equality Monitoring Form and returning to:
