BNU Senior Lecturer Mahmood Anjoyeb wins University Educator of the Year at the Student Nursing Times Awards 2024

Mahmood Anjoyeb, Senior Lecturer in Buckinghamshire New University’s (BNU) School of Nursing and Midwifery, has been awarded ‘University Educator of the Year’ at the Student Nursing Times Awards (SNTAs) 2024.

Held on Park Lane in London last week, the SNTAs are designed to honour the achievements of student nurses and nurse educators across the UK. Mahmood’s award was one of 24 categories, nine of which included shortlisted students and colleagues from BNU.

A qualified nurse, Mahmood, who is known by the BNU community as Mike, has worked at BNU for more than 10 years and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Judges selected Mike for the award for his humility, inclusive and supportive nature with students, and “down to earth approach to pedagogy”.

Mike said: “It was a big surprise to be nominated by my colleagues and our students, no less to win. I look forward to continuing our work to provide the best possible student experience, and hope this recognition will contribute to raising the profile of the quality education we provide at BNU.”

Professor Karen Buckwell-Nutt, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Student Experience), said: “We are thrilled to see Mike Anjoyeb recognised for his unwavering dedication and support for our students. Mike is a fantastic Senior Lecturer, held in the highest regard by the whole university community, and the award for University Educator of the Year is very well deserved.”

“We look forward to the Student Nursing Times Awards every year, and we were ecstatic to have an institutional record of 13 shortlisted across nine categories from our BNU community this year. I extend my congratulations to all winners and nominees, and thanks to the organisers for hosting us for another fantastic event.”

Editor of Nursing Times, Steve Ford, said: “A massive congratulations to all of our winners at the 2024 Student Nursing Times Awards.

“It is always an honour to host the awards each year and once again, I was really impressed by the calibre of the entries.”

“The Student Nursing Times Awards hold a unique place in the nursing calendar, specifically setting out to recognise an outstanding group of students on their journey to becoming the nurses and midwives.

“By celebrating the best in nursing and midwifery education, Nursing Times aims to support the health and social care workforce of the future.”
